Set up your first workspace, save a bookmark, and find things again.
Follow these steps after installing TabSlate to go from a fresh install to an organized workspace.
1. Open a new tab
Open a new tab. The first time TabSlate has nothing saved yet, it automatically creates a guest workspace with a Default collection, so there is nothing to set up before you start.
You do not need an account to use TabSlate this way. Guest use works fully on its own — an account is only needed later if you want your workspace synced across devices.
2. Create or rename a workspace and collection
Rename the default workspace, or create a new one, and add a collection inside it for a real project or area you are working on. Workspaces keep unrelated projects separate from each other; collections then group related bookmarks within a workspace.
3. Save a useful page as a bookmark
Save a page worth returning to as a bookmark — from the right-click context menu, from the popup, or by dragging an open tab into a collection in the sidebar. TabSlate stores it with its favicon and page metadata instead of letting it disappear into your tab bar.
4. Review live tabs and save a Chrome group for reuse
Open the tabs view to see everything currently open in the browser, then save a Chrome tab group as a saved group. Saved groups are reusable: you can close the tabs and restore the whole set again later.
5. Search to find it again
Use the search box in the workspace to look across your open tabs, bookmarks, and enabled search engines.
Optional: search from any site
On sites where you have granted the optional overlay permission (see Browser Permissions), you can also press Ctrl+Shift+K (Command+Shift+K on macOS) to open the same search without switching back to a TabSlate tab first.
6. Register and verify only if you want sync
Optional
Registering and verifying an email address is only needed if you want your workspace synced across devices, through a self-hosted TabSlate server or the official cloud service. Guest use keeps working with no account at all.
If you do want sync, register from the sidebar, then verify your email with the one-time code TabSlate sends you. Once verified, your existing guest workspace, collections, and bookmarks carry over into your account automatically.
