Guest and Verified Accounts
Using TabSlate without an account, and what changes once you register and verify one.
Guest use needs no account
TabSlate works fully as a guest. The first time it has nothing saved on a device, it automatically creates a guest workspace with a Default collection, so there's already somewhere to save a bookmark from the very first new tab — see Quick Start for that first-run flow. Guests use the exact same dashboard as a verified account; nothing is hidden or read-only.
Everything you create as a guest — workspaces, collections, bookmarks, saved groups — stays local to that browser. It doesn't go anywhere else, and it doesn't move off the device until you connect a verified account with a working connection: registering and verifying, or logging into one already verified, triggers TabSlate to merge that local data into the account and start syncing it.
Because guest data only moves once a verified account is connected, reinstalling the extension or clearing the browser's local data before that point removes it for good — there's no separate backup while you're on the guest workspace.
Registering and verifying
Register with a name, email, and password. TabSlate immediately emails a six-digit verification code and shows a code-entry screen. Enter the six digits to verify; if the email doesn't arrive, you can request another after a short cooldown. Until you verify, TabSlate keeps asking for the code the next time you open the dashboard.
If you meant to use a different email than the one you just registered, Use a different account on the code-entry screen backs out of verifying that address and returns you to login/register instead of forcing you to finish it first.
Logging in and out
Log in with the email and password of an already-registered, verified account.
Logging out clears TabSlate's local data on this device and drops you back to a fresh guest workspace — it doesn't check whether anything is still waiting to sync first. Nothing is removed from your account: data already synced is safe on the server and comes back the next time you log in, but anything created or changed since your last successful sync stays only on the device and is lost when you log out. Give sync a moment to finish (see Cloud Sync) before logging out if you're not sure it has.
Resetting a forgotten password
From the login screen, request a password reset for your email. TabSlate emails a six-digit code; enter it together with a new password to regain access without needing the old one.
