Keyboard Shortcuts
Every keyboard shortcut TabSlate defines, and exactly what each one does.
Global search
| Shortcut | Windows / Linux | macOS |
|---|---|---|
| Open search | Ctrl+Shift+K | Command+Shift+K |
What this does depends on where you press it. On the TabSlate new-tab dashboard, it focuses the dashboard's own search box. On any other site where you've granted the optional overlay permission (see Browser Permissions), it opens the same search as a floating overlay instead. See Search for the three sources it searches and how results are ordered.
This shortcut does nothing on pages TabSlate can't run a script on — internal browser pages like chrome://extensions, and any site you haven't granted the optional overlay permission for. There's no error; the page just doesn't respond.
Inside search results
Once a search has results — in the dashboard search box or the overlay — the same keys work in both places:
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
↓ | Move the highlight to the next result |
↑ | Move the highlight to the previous result |
Enter | Open the highlighted result |
Escape | Close the overlay, or clear/close the dashboard search box |
Reassigning the shortcut
Ctrl+Shift+K / Command+Shift+K is TabSlate's only defined keyboard command, so it's the only entry you'll find for it in your browser's own shortcut manager: chrome://extensions/shortcuts on Chrome, Edge, and other Chromium browsers, or about:addons → gear icon → Manage Extension Shortcuts on Firefox.
This is a browser-level setting, not something TabSlate's own Settings dialog exposes. See Settings & Shortcuts for what TabSlate's Settings actually control.
